Agricultural Processing and Agriculture go hand in hand and it consists of the food processing segment, play a major role in generating the investment and employment in urban and rural areas, thereby reducing the gap between the Urban and Rural populace of the state.
Rajasthan is a state unique in many ways and this place is known for the historical places, folklores, culture traditions and the vibrant environment. This is the largest state in India and 80% of the population is dependent on agriculture. Furthermore, the state is divided into 33 districts and has 10 Agricultural climatic segments and the cultivatable land area is 240 lack hectares.
The people are not only interested in agriculture but also the dairy farming and has 14 hectares ideally suited for grazing of the animals.
Agriculture plays a pivotal role in the Indian economy and its. Although its contribution to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is now one seventh, it provides employment to 64 per cent of the state.
The growth of various commercial crops like Tea, Coffee, Oil seeds has substantial chances for enhancing the exports of agricultural products and bringing about smoother development of Agriculture based industries. Thus, agriculture not only leads to complete growth of the economy but also diminishes poverty by giving employment and food security to the mainstream population in the state of Rajasthan.
Due to the regular introduction of the Five-Year Plans in our nation, Rajasthan has improved a lot since independence in 1947, however the real observable development has evaded us for many years. The evergreen and never-ending issues of Poverty, Unemployment, Inflation, Communal Riots, Black-marketing, Nepotism, affecting the nation.
There is a need for tremendous assistance by the Government and people to the farmers to make them independent in Rajasthan state.
The Government of Rajasthan brought out the Rajasthan Agriculture Policy in 2020 to boost the production of various crops in the state and make the state independent in Agriculture sector.
OBJECTIVES OF THE AGRICULTURE POLICY
The objectives of the Rajasthan Agriculture Policy are given below as follows:
- Encouraging the development of the agriculture in the state by tapping huge agriculture resources in a logical manner.
- Addressing the major issues in the agricultural growth using the long term and the short-term viewpoints.
- To motivate the individual to have the higher income through the efficient production and processing, and have export of value-based products.
- To accelerate the financial investments in supply and value chain of the Agriculture.
- Enhancing the market outreach of the fresh fruits and vegetables and other food items in the international and domestic markets.
- Supporting the Agricultural Industry for showing the greater standards of the food supply and greater hygiene to meet the standards of the FCI (Food Corporation of India).
VISION OF THE AGRICULTURE POLICY
To vitalise on using latest technologies in agriculture, along with the giving food products with amazing nutritional values and giving importance to having balanced diet for everybody in Urban and Rural areas of Rajasthan. This also gives importance to have integrated agricultural production techniques, coupled with pre-harvest and post-harvest management.
MISSION OF THE AGRICULTURE POLICY
- To prevent migration taking place in Rajasthan of individuals from rural to urban areas using the farm and off farm programs.
- To remove the existing gap using the latest technologies in agriculture, along with the integrated farming techniques.
FEATURES OF THE AGRICULTURE POLICY
The features of the Rajasthan Agriculture Policy are given below as follows:
- To have best practices in the agricultural production using the ancient and modern technical knowhow.
- To align various initiatives using well managed mechanisms between various ministries.
- Stressing on enhancing the production of major crops like Bajra, Wheat, Pulses, Masala, Oil Seeds, Millets, Cotton and others.
- They encourage the capital formation in agriculture using the Public and Private Investments like developing good infrastructure.
- To reduce the existing gap through bringing new technologies and patterns and valuable inputs.
- To encourage the broadening of agricultural techniques like Agro forestry, Animal Husbandry and the inland agriculture.
- To stress on the development of the joint farming for various speciality crops to ensure higher income.
- To prevent the migration of the people from Rural to the urban areas in Rajasthan including the development of various roads, cold chains, communication, and the agricultural processing sectors.
- Understanding the requirements of agriculture based on the short and the long-term perceptions.
- Achieve complete security to completely satisfy the demand of the huge population that is increasing 8% on an annual basis in Rajasthan.
- Concentrating on the development of the integrated farming techniques in the states and generate huge farm incomes.
- Encouraging the cultivation of the various crops like the Medicinal, Aromatic and the Horticultural plants in western parts of Rajasthan.
- Undertaking various activities like the production and availability of the seeds of high yielding varieties of various fruits and vegetables.
STRATEGY OF THE RAJASTHAN GOVERNMENT FOR ENHANCED PRODUCTION IN THE AGRICULTURAL ARENA
There are various strategies adopted by the Government of Rajasthan to develop the agriculture. They are as follows:
- Development of the Organic farming in Rajasthan to generate the income from using the horticultural and other forms of farming.
- Incentives to be given to farmers in Rajasthan coming up with ideas to boost the productivity of crops.
- Giving importance to increase production of Oil seeds in order to have a good competitive advantage over the others.
- Increase the water quality and enhance the receding ground level water supply to have a higher crop produce per hectare.
- Farmers will be motivated to use the bio fertilisers on a huge scale to improve the health of the soil in Rajasthan.
- Installation of green houses on a war footing to boost the production of vegetables.
- Promote uninterrupted supply of electricity to the farmers of the state to achieve quality output.
- Stressing on the usage of the soil for the Soil testing, Promotion of the organic farming, Usage of the optimum land areas in a logical manner.
- Bringing in more of micro irrigation where in using the canals and lakes, farm ponds, farm bunds on a large scale to cultivate crops.
- Encouraging the production of Oranges, Pomegranates, Custard apple, Date palm and others.
- Undertaking the diversified form of agriculture leading to the production of various vegetables, fruits, medicinal and aromatic plants.
- Carrying out lot of effective research programmes on Integrated Water Management like the Water Harvesting, Water Recharge and treating the problematic water.
- Increased production of the hybrid varieties of the vegetable’s fruits and other oil seeds in Rajasthan.
- Stressing on establishment of good warehousing facilities in the state to protect the crops like Rice, Millets, Paddy, Wheat and others.
- Providing proper Pest Management in order to control the pests and other relevant diseases through the fantastic approach of the farmers.
- Usage of sophisticated farming-based equipment’s like the Driller, Reaper, Rotavator, Solar dryers, Grading Machines, Small and Medium Processing Units, Bailing Machines and others.
- Encouraging the diversified livestock production in farming where in scientific and advanced methods are used for increased fodder production, making grass, creation of fodder seeds and others.
- Creating Agriculture as a major subject to encourage the people from both urban and rural areas to produce more crops.
- Bringing in women folk to the agriculture segment in order to give them good skills and enhance the productivity.
- Creation of more State Agricultural Universities to boost the production of various crops in the state.
MAJOR OUTCOMES OF THE RAJASTHAN AGRICULTURE POLICY
The major outcomes of the Rajasthan Agriculture Policy are given below as follows:

- Making the state very competitive in domestic and foreign arena.
- Giving importance to stability in Agricultural field and enhance the farm productivity.

- Promotion of the secondary level of agriculture including the farm and Non-farm occasions through the development of free enterprise.
- Changing the standard of living of the people and increasing employments.
Agriculture is the backbone of the state of Rajasthan and the creation of Rajasthan as a destination for investors, and promoting the Agricultural Business will enhance the diversification of Agriculture. State Level Monitoring Committee will be authorised to decide on the various amendments in the Rajasthan Agriculture Policy.
