The Punjab Free Electricity Scheme is launched by the Aam Aadmi Party that came to power in the state 2 months ago and under the vibrant leadership of Shri. Bhagwant Mann, is to offer Zero Power Bill to the citizens of Punjab up to 300 units of power.

Modern era is always branded as the age of electricity and in the present scenario it is impossible to imagine the life without electricity and electric devices in Punjab. It is said that when we were young, we used to rely more on usage of renewable resources like sun, wind and water. However, with the changes in the lifestyle and thanks to excessive urbanisation and industrialisation electricity began to rule the roost and the life comes to a complete halt if there is no power even for 5 minutes in Punjab.

Electricity was invented by Michael Faraday and this works on a principle of energy released by the generator and these are very big and small. In order to make sure that the generator is running well, the engine or the turbine is run by the steam and the steam gets created by boiling the water. The heat is generated from using the coals and other forms of fuels. Generator is also used by water that is running from dams and the atomic energy is also used for the same.

Earlier we used to less depend on the electric devices, but now we have various electric devices like the Electric Iron, Bulb, Computer, Tabs, Train, Electric Scooter, Car, Fan, Oven, Stove and others that has made our lives very uncomfortable. We have been used to using these things and in the past electricity was considered one of the marvels of science, however, now it is a necessity.

Punjab has always boasted of good electricity supply due to the presence of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) and Punjab State Transmission Corporation Limited (PSTCL), both of which are state owned establishments to offer power on a regular basis. There is no glamour, splendour and good life in the present scenario without power.

Electricity has changed the farming and industries are developing in Punjab and have played a vital role in distributing water to the canals and do the irrigation in dry and barren lands in the state. The examples of electricity are the Bhakra Dam in Punjab, Hirakud in Odisha, Bhadravathi in Karnataka and other places in India.
