India is a developing nation and then if you take the issues regarding the life of the low income people the insurance was never considered to be an option in the past. They were presumed to be too poor to save and pay premium. Hence, the government assumed the responsibility of meeting health care needs of the poor and the downtrodden in Rajasthan.

There are some basic questions that strike my mind, namely:

Why do we need Insurance?

Why cannot we offer the free health care to all as in ancient times?

The cost of treatment and medical facilities has risen and we need insurance to get good treatment at no cost. Well, the approach of free public health facility has not worked effectively in various states. Increase in the cost of the treatment, Corruption, Favouritism, Reduction in the economic support to the Public Health Services, Shortage in delivery and excessively low quality of these healthcare management services is the solid proof of these.

If you look at Kerala, where the public health care provision is developed, and will get smarter as the decentralisation of healthcare takes place there are reasons for introducing health insurance in the state of Rajasthan.

Let me help you analyse the term Health insurance. It is a contract where an insurance company delivers medical coverage to the insured for a premium amount. It also covers the medical expenses incurred on the patient like the Surgeries, Hospitalisation, Physiotherapy, Day care procedures, Medicines and others. A health insurance policy refunds the medical costs based on numerous conditions and also offer cashless treatment.

A good health insurance is essential in the present scenario as it protects the people from hospitalisation expenses, during the time of emergency situations in Rajasthan.

This Mukhyamantri Chiranjeevi Yojana is the creation of Shri Ashok Gehlot, the Honourable Chief Minister of Rajasthan and it started on May 1, 2021.
