Maharashtra is spear heading in the agricultural front of India. There is always the attempt to develop agriculture and industries, simplify faster flow of investment by generating progressive climate towards the growth and development of farmers in the State.

Maharashtra has developed a solid base of agro-industrial infrastructure, robust Human Resources, and sustaining and diversifying the base in other sections like Telecommunications and Energy. This was possible because Maharashtra initiated several policy initiatives, since its inception, in varied fields at the same time.

The situation of the farmers in Maharashtra has never been improving for many years. Poverty is their eternal friend and the foremost problem behind the condition of farmers is the middlemen. Farmers in Maharashtra are not paid directly from the market because of the existence of middlemen.

These middlemen grab the lion’s share of profit leaving behind nothing but misery for the farmers in Maharashtra. They can’t send their kids to schools or even feed themselves properly and fulfil their primary and secondary requirements. As a result of this poor condition, they are forced to switch to other professions or end their lives.

Another major reason behind this plight of the farmers in Maharashtra is global warming. Since this is a global problem, Farmers are the worst affected currently. Crops are getting damaged farmers in Maharashtra due to lack of proper nutrition and the seasons are getting delayed. As a result, season- specific crops can’t get accurate nourishment leading to unrest in the mind of farmers in Maharashtra. Since global warming is touching our planet in every way, it affects our farmers in Maharashtra.

There are different types of farmers and they all have equal significance. First is the farmer who grows crops like Wheat, Rice and Barley as the maximum intake in the Indian houses is of wheat and rice, the cultivation of wheat and rice is higher in Maharashtra state. Crops need proper sunlight and rain to develop and if the crops are not getting they get destroyed. Moreover, farmers who grow these crops are of primary importance. These farmers have to prepare the soil for different types of crops. Other line of agricultural activity taking place in Maharashtra is the Commercial Farming like Cotton, Sugarcane and others.

To protect the interest and promote the welfare of the farmers, the Government of Maharashtra is trying to provide them with various privileges. Recently the government has exempted them from all the loans. This helps them to have some earning apart from their profession. Furthermore, the government provides quotas (reservations) to their children to reduce the burden in the lives of farmers.

This guarantees that their children get proper education in today’s competitive world. Mahatma Jyothirao Phule Shetkari Karj Mukthi Yojana is the pivotal scheme announced by the Government of Maharashtra to protect and promote the interest of farmers.
