Ayurveda is one of the most well-known traditional systems of medicine that has grown over the years and gaining lot of momentum in Madhya Pradesh. With the good knowledge of nature based medicines, the relationship of human body and function to nature and the elements of the universe that act in coordination and affect the humans, this system will continue to flourish in weeks to come.

There are many opportunities still to be explored by the practitioners, researchers, and experts in the arena carrying out the duty of protecting and promoting the traditional systems of medicine flourishing and supporting their growth in the future.

Ayurveda is an ancient system of medicine and has splendid history in India. It is advocated that the great sage Agnivesha (Guru of Dronacharya-the royal teacher to the Kauravas and Pandavas), accumulated the knowledge of traditional medicines from the Vedas and passed it on to his disciples.

This was written by the great scholar Charaka in form of “Charaka Samhita”. Sushruta, another great intellectual wrote "Sushruta Samhita". The Charaka Samhita explains the various components of the Ayurvedic medicines and the Sushruta Samhita explains the amazing science of Ancient Surgery and its implications for the future generations. These legendary compilations are followed by practitioners of traditional medicine like Ayurveda and Siddha.

The Government of Madhya Pradesh brought in the Devaranya Scheme to promote the ancient and powerful science of Ayurveda and also to generate employment to the large section available in the state of Madhya Pradesh.

OBJECTIVES OF THE DEVARANYA SCHEME

  • To promote the growth of Ayurveda and Ayurvedic Sciences in the state of Madhya Pradesh.

  • Encouraging the employment potential in the field of Ayurveda to boost the Ayurveda and the Ayurvedic products on a war footing.

VISION OF THE DEVARANYA SCHEME

Revolving the activities towards precision root cause analysis and treatments in the field of Ayurveda and generate employment in the same sphere. Furthermore, the initiative also includes enhancing the Affordability and Accessibility to the medicines, Promoting Private Investors, Encouraging Health Centres in Madhya Pradesh.

MISSION OF THE DEVARANYA SCHEME

  • Encourage the cultivation of many medicinal plants in Madhya Pradesh and to increase the production at par with the agricultural produce.

  • Reviving the profound knowledge of our ancient system of medicine and doing optimum development in the field of Ayurvedic healthcare.

  • Opening the Ayurvedic Segment to the private players and encouraging the partnership based on the Public Private Partnership models in the state.

FEATURES OF THE DEVARANYA SCHEME

The features of the Devaranya Scheme introduced by the Government of Madhya Pradesh are given below as follows:

  • Directly propagating the growth and development of the ancient science of Ayurveda and generating valuable employment potential for the state and make it very strong.

  • To encourage and promote the concept of Ayurveda in the state and also give importance to Ayush as well.

  • The major motive behind the launch of this scheme to utilise lot of medicinal plants in the state and promote them.

  • Creating a huge value chain for the youth in the state through the usage of this scheme on a large scale.

  • Encouraging the growth of tourism in far flung areas of the state of Madhya Pradesh to generate valuable revenue.

  • Bringing in lot of Self Help Groups and other Government and Non-Government agencies in the state to make them occupied with the noble task.

  • Giving lot of importance to backward and Endangered Tribals areas of the state and directly connect them to the national main stream.

  • Playing a major role in creation and development of more and more Ayurvedic institutions in the state and create an impact.

  • Concentrating towards creation of more and more Research and Developmental centres and Outlets in the state to reach people of Madhya Pradesh.

  • Establishment of more and more wellness centres in the state to spread the message of Ayurveda.

  • Emphasising the major need to enhance growth of Wellness Tourism in the state of Madhya Pradesh.

  • Giving importance to growing more and more medicinal plants in the state of Madhya Pradesh and reduce the dependence on the western medicines like Tablets and Capsules.

  • Developing the amazing supply chain in the field of Ayurveda and its components to create a huge impact in the state.

GROWTH OF AYURVEDA UNDER THE DEVARANYA SCHEME

Ayurveda is originating from two words like Ayur means life and Veda means the knowledge. It can be also called the Science of Life. The Indian Ayurveda industry can be largely characterised into the Organised and the Un-organised sectors.

In Madhya Pradesh many Pharmacies, Ayurveda Wellbeing Centres, Clinics, Hospitals, are getting established and this bring the meaning for the organised Ayurveda sector. Furthermore, the organised participants also include the light Ayurveda therapies in their cluster of offerings.

Small exporters, local Ayurveda pharmacies, Raw Material Cultivators, Manufacturers and Small and Medium Manufacturing Units in Madhya Pradesh consist of the unorganised segments.

Various companies have their presence made in Madhya Pradesh like the Dabur, Vicco, Zandu, Hamdard, Himalayas, Patanjali, Kairali, Jiva, Kotakkal and others.

Under this Devaranya scheme various departments like the Agricultural, Tourism, Medical, Public Welfare, Forest, Rural Area, Industrial Development, Micro and Small Medium Enterprises MSME, and other departments will work hand in glove.

To be honest Ayurveda and Ayurvedic practices always play a foremost role in undertaking the preventive, curative and promoting healthcare activities in the state of Madhya Pradesh.

INITIATIVES DONE BY THE MADHYA PRADESH GOVERNMENT TO PROMOTE DEVARANYA SCHEME

Many initiatives have been encouraged by the Government of Madhya Pradesh to improve the outreach of Ayurveda in the state and it is given below as follows:

  • Creation of many Ayurvedic Clinics in Indore and Bhopal.

  • Developing many Unani and Ayurvedic Dispensaries in the state.

  • To give stiff competition to the Chinese and Greek form of ancient treatments in Medicine segment.

  • Establishment of many Research and Development Centres in Bhind, Vidisha, Shivpuri, Khandwa, Sagar, Jabalpur, Sehore, Ujjain and others.

  • Doing cooperative medical research in Ayurveda and set up more units in Madhya Pradesh.

  • To evaluate the mode of action on various Ayurvedic Drugs in the state.

  • Taking help of Research scholars and skilled academicians in the state to develop good medicines making the difference to the lives of the people.

  • Using the Webinars, Seminars and Telemedicine to solve issue of high magnitude and get rid of challenges causing trouble to the people of Madhya Pradesh.

The home-grown system of medicine like the Āyuṛveda with its development and power should be made available to a larger population in the state of Madhya Pradesh. Furthermore, the progressions in complete model and technological incorporation, it will add up to its national and global acceptance and the Devaranya Scheme is a small step in that wonderful and big direction.
