Rajasthan is the richest states of the country in terms of art and craft. Not only within India but also abroad. Rajasthan is notorious for its handicraft work like Stone Carvings, Metal Work, Textile Prints, Weaving, Lac work, Paintings, Leather craft, Mat and Carpet Works, Blue Pottery, Wood and Sandal Wood Work, and other activities.

Time comes and goes and the people have become more developed and civilised in all aspects, those who were making handicraft products have started trading their requirements due to the increase in the demand and population. The artisans have also started traveling to various places to sell their art collections.

The Bazaar Sahayatha Yojana is the unique star studded programme introduced by the Rajasthan Government to develop the Handicrafts sector in the state and connect the artisans to the ever changing market to sell his or her creations.

Objectives of the Bazaar Sahayatha Yojana

  • To encourage the artisans in Rajasthan to sell his or her handicrafts item made of metals, bamboo and others to potential markets in India and abroad.
  • To make the life of the artisans easier and become very independent in handling the situations of the life.

Vision of the Bazaar Sahayatha Yojana

To have a sustainable development of the Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts Sections in the state with good opportunities for artisan and weavers and also to preserve the rich art and culture of the state of Rajasthan.

Mission of the Bazaar Sahayatha Yojana

  • To encourage the crafts and develop a sustainable form of livelihood for the marginalised people in Rajasthan.
  • Stressing on the creation of sustainable marketing platforms for groups into the handicrafts and Artisans in the state.

Features of the Bazaar Sahayatha Yojana

There are some features about the Bazaar Sahayatha Yojana sponsored by the Government of Rajasthan. They are given below as follows:

  • It believes in offering the long term development assistance in order to make the handicrafts an income generating source.
  • Stressing on development of the lost art of crafts on a large scale due to the regular interventions.
  • Encourage the artisans to rise in business and avoid the suicide cases.
  • This play a major role in enhancing the awareness and developing the education of the Handicrafts using the interactive programs.
  • Making the Rajasthani folk art and crafts popular among the rural youth of the state.
  • The rural artisans will get 50% exemption on the rentals of the stall.
  • This scheme encourages the Artisans and Skilled Personalities in the state to increase the production and bring in more innovations.
  • The artisans will be asked to participate in more and more events and fairs on a large scale to showcase his or her talent.
  • They encourage the artisans to set up new units in Rajasthan and will give all the assistance.
  • Those artisans participating in the fair personally and promoting the Rajasthani Handicrafts will be give the weightage.
  • The rentals of the tent set up by the artisans in the fair will range from INR 1500 to INR 2000 with some exemptions.
  • Every day the skilled artisans will be paid INR 250 on a daily basis.
  • During the process of travelling to other states or anywhere in Rajasthan the artisans will be offered with the transport allowances.

Eligibility Criteria For Becoming Member Of The Bazaar Sahayatha Yojana

The conditions for becoming the member of the Bazaar Sahayatha Yojana are given below as follows:

  • Applicant must be above 20 years of age.
  • The person must be living below the poverty line.
  • The aspirant must be born and raised in Rajasthan.
  • The applicant must have done basic course in Handicrafts.
  • The person must be the handloom weaver by profession for 4 years.
  • Only one member from a single family can apply for this scheme, multiple entries are not encouraged.
  • The people from Endangered Tribes, Scheduled Caste and Tribes are also welcome to apply under this scheme.

Procedure For Applying For Becoming Member Of The Bazaar Sahayatha Yojana

The situations for becoming the member of the Bazaar Sahayatha Yojana are given below as follows:

  • The applicant must go to the Department of Handicrafts under the Government of Rajasthan.
  • The applicant must take the application form and fill in personal details like the Name, Age, Sex, Married/Unmarried, Email, Mobile Number, Location of the fair, Sponsor details, Duration, Income details, Number of fairs attended, Phone number and others.
  • The applicable documents should be attached along with the form to get the maximum benefits in the state.
  • The applicant will receive the message in his or her mobile number about the status of the application.
  • If the document is rejected it will be shown within 10 business days.
  • The applicant need to submit the missing document to the application form within 7 business days.
  • For the document to get approved you need to wait for 30 days or more to get it registered under this scheme.

Document required for membership under the Bazaar Sahayatha Yojana

There are documents required in order to become the member of the Bazaar Sahayatha Scheme; you must deposit documents given below as follows:

  • Annual Income Certificate.
  • Copy of Aadhar and the PAN Card.
  • The Xerox copy of the bank account statements.
  • Caste Certificate signed by the gazetted officer.
  • The Nativity Certificate verified by the gazetted officer.
  • The Birth Certificate confirmed by the gazetted officer.
  • Copy of Ration card verified by the Gazetted officer.
  • Registration certificate issued by handloom association.
  • The Copy of Voter Id, Driving License certified by the gazetted officer.
  • Certificate from the establishment where weaver underwent training.
  • Below Poverty Line (BPL) Certificate verified by the Gazetted Officer.
  • The Bank Passbook showing the First/Last page Xerox signed by the gazetted officer.

Various handicrafts in Rajasthan

There are various handicrafts available in the state of Rajasthan and it is given below as follows:

  • Brass Handicrafts: The durability of the brass adds to the fame to the brassware. Pictures of gods in various poses, table tops, ornament boxes and lamps, wine glasses, fruit bowls are extensively used in Rajasthani households.

  • Tie and Dye: Tie and dye as the name suggests involves the tying of the fabric like the cotton or silk, with thread at certain points and then immersing it into colourful dyes to create a range of designs that will appeal to your eyes.

There are various prints like the Dabu Prints in Baltora, Sawai Madhopur, Bhagru and Sanganer. The Sanganeri Prints is done on the Latha or the Malmal clothes and post printing it is washed in water and the credit goes to Mr. Munna Lal Goyal for making the Sanganeri Prints worldwide.

  • Clay Handicrafts: The people working in the Clay Handicrafts is known as the Kumhars, and they are champions in making Jewellery, Decorative Pots, Clay Pots, and other clay wares on a regular basis.

  • Dhokra Handicrafts: This is the major handicrafts originated in parts of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh and is good in portraying various folklores and other characters. The Dhokra Jewellery, Pen stands, Candle Holders, Frameworks, Ash trays, fancied items, Decoration boxes are world famous.

  • Rock Handicrafts: This is one of the major rock arts that is observed in various places like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and other states in India. There is green coloured stone art famous in the state and they make wonderful utensils, good decoration pieces, stone jewellery and lovely statues.

There are various stones like Red, Pink, White, Badami, Granite and Slate and places in Rajasthan like Kota, Jalore, Makrana, Bharatpur, Jaisalmer, Kishangarh, Dhoplur, Udaipur, Rajsamand and Jodhpur specialised in handling these stones.

  • Weaving Handicrafts: Rajasthan is one of the major centres of wooden arts and also created in places like Jamnagar, Ahmedabad and Rajkot. They are good in weaving sarees, and some of them are world famous like Bandhej, Piliya, Pattu Weaving.

Traditional forms of Pattu Weaving are found in Barmer, Alwar, Jaisalmer and surrounding areas. The Camel Wool and sheep wool is obtained in black, brown, grey and others.

Meghval community in Rajasthan is worthy in making these type of sarees. It is worn by men and women and bring and colourful Pattu is very good in covering a large part of the body. It is a runaway hit among the Farmers and Shepherds.

  • Thewa Arts: It is a unique art format, where in minute painting on the glass is done using the gold and various colours are used to make it. The art form is only available in Pratapgarh.
