The Zoroastrian Cooperative Bank Limited was founded on June 17,1927 by the great son of India Shri Hormusjee Cowasjee Dinshaw Adenwalla. He was educated at London and Paris and also known as the Maker of Modern Aden, a small town in Yemen. His family constructed agricultural godowns at Zanzibar and at Lonavala. He was also known by the name Adenwalla as he constructed many granaries in Aden. Shri Hormusjee was conferred the Order of the British Empire in 1918 and was Knighted in 1922.
Furthermore, Sir Hormusjee Cowasjee Dinshaw Adenwalla was elected the member of the Bombay Parsee Panchayat in 1931 and was also the president of the Parsee Federal Council and Jarthosti Komna Labh Sachavnari Mandali. He was the permanent board member of various mills and also the captain of many industrial groups in India.
To commemorate his deeds, the Bombay Municipal Corporation named a road as Sir Hormusjee Adenwalla Road in Dadar Parsee Colony in Mumbai and he died on August 1, 1939. The Zoroastrian Cooperative Bank Limited achieved the status of the scheduled and multi status bank on November 2013 and began to operations on its branches at Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Navsari, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Gandhinagar, Porbundar, Bharuch, Nadiad and Valsad.
