The West Bengal State Cooperative Bank is the major cooperative society established in West Bengal on February 19, 1918 and the name was Bengal Provincial Cooperative Federation Limited. This company was registered under the Cooperative Societies Act of 1912. The main motto was to supply relevant capital to the neighbouring cooperative banks located in various parts of West Bengal.
The federation was converted into a bank and this bank was named as “The Bengal Provincial Cooperative Bank Limited” in 1923. During 1947 there was partition and this establishment was renamed as The West Bengal Provincial Cooperative Bank Limited. Most of the provinces were redivided and later onwards the name of the bank was changed into the West Bengal State Cooperative Bank Limited in 1964.
