The Shamrao Vithal Cooperative Bank is one of the vital cooperative bank located in Thane in Maharashtra and set up on December 27,1906 and has most of its branches in and around Thane. This bank was created with a core aim to encourage the savings, helping the weaker segment of the society like the middle class and lower class. Late Rao Bahadur Shripad Subbarao Talmaki, the spiritual leader of the Co-operation, was the main architect of the Bank and he christened this bank after Late Shamrao Vithal Kaikini, who was the main mentor. They also created the Distress Relief Fund in 1931 and the Staff Gratuity Fund in 1934. Furthermore, the Shamrao Vithal Cooperative Bank also got the status of the Scheduled Bank in 1988.
