The City Union Bank Limited earlier known as the Kumbakonam Bank on October 31st 1904 and the prominent leaders and citizens of Kumbakonam signed the bill like S.Krishna Iyer, Sarvashri R. Santhanam Iyer, V.Krishnaswami Iyengar, and T.S.Raghavachariar. The bank slowly spread its wings and started working in Tanjavur and the first branch was opened at Mannargudi on January 24, 1930 and later on wards many branches were set up in Ayyampet, Thirukattupati, Mayuram and Manaparai in the next 25 plus years.
The City Union Bank Limited was included in the Second Schedule of the RBI and came to being on March 22, 1945. On November 14, 1954 the bank celebrated the Golden Jubilee and in 1979 celebrated the Platinum Jubilee. In 1990 during the tenure of Shri P V Narasimha Rao, most of the branches has been computerised and all the branches were brought under the Core Banking Solutions. We also entered into agreement with LIC and the National Insurance to sell various insurance products.
