History of Central Bank of India

The Central Bank of India is one of the nationalised bank in India and the oldest bank after the State Bank of India. Established on December 21, 1911 by Sir Sorabji Pochkanawala and Sir Pherozshah Mehta as the leading founders, this bank has been completely governed by Indians. It also took control of the Tata Industrial Bank and Alliance Bank of Shimla. We played a vital role during the first and the second world wars in mobilising the financial resources all over the nation and set up many offices. Telegram  and Telegraph was the major mode of transfer done during this period and we have 4685 branches in urban and rural areas of India. We are proud owners of 4886 ATM in India as on March 31st 2018.

Legal Issues

During the early 80 there was an issue where in the managers of the London branch of the Union Bank of India, Punjab National Bank and the Central Bank of India were involved in a fraud, where in they made transaction of huge amount to Indias neighbour Bangladesh. A Jute trader from Bangladesh Mr. Rajinder Sethia was involved and the Central Bank of India came to the fore and closed the London branch of all the above mentioned branches.
