Legal issues

The Barclays Bank were facing various legal issues and some of them are:

Barclays Bank gave the financial assistance to Zimbabwean Government under Robert Mugabe despite sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe. 30 Billion Pounds were given by this bank to Mr. Mugabe to bring in land reforms in Zimbabwe, after driving out the blacks from various properties. Barclays lost many customers in Zimbabwe and apologised for this action.

Barclays Bank also gave the financial assistance to help the Alavi Foundation in Iran in various activities despite US financial ban on Iran due to its nuclear programme and terrorist activities. Later there was a settlement done with the US Government for a whopping 298 Million dollars.

Barclays Bank was also fined 290 Million Pounds because it modified the centralised data of the London Interbank and the Euro Bank Rates. This lead to irregular submission of the rates and a possible financial meltdown was done by reaching a close door settlement between the US Department of Justice and Barclays Bank.
