The Bank of Ceylon (BOC) is the biggest bank in Sri Lanka offering various banking activities and headquartered at Mawatha in Colombo. This bank was established on August 1, 1936 by Sir Andrew Caldecott. There are various branches in Kurunegala, Badulla, Jaffna and Kandy and overseas banking facility in London. It is under the control of the Central Bank of Ceylon. The name of the 32 storey building is Pittu Bambuva, a cylindrical term used for cooking Pittu a rice cake dish.
